Trailers are subject to a 3% Highway use tax, collected by NCDMV at the time titles & tags are obtained. To save you the hassle of standing in line at the DMV, we will process your registration, title, tags, and payment of all State fees for $195.. If we are processing your registration, we will collect the 3% tax and issue a 30-day paper plate at the time you pick up the trailer. We will call when your tag has arrived and you can come by to pick it up, or we can mail it to you. New tags include a temporary 90-day registration and the required property tax to get your yearly registration.
If you choose to do the titling yourself, we charge a $100 documentation fee and give you the notarized Certificate of Origin. You are then responsible to pay NCDMV directly for all the taxes, titling, and other fees. State regulations mandate that we cannot issue a 30-day tag unless we are handling the registration process.
Your new trailer will require custom adjustments to fit your boat. Depending on the degree of difficulty, adjustments can range from $150 - $450. If your boat is under 5,000lbs and you need us to move it onto your new trailer, there is a minimum $250 hoist and forklift charge (a two-man job which involves both skill and liability). If your boat is already in the water or can be transported to a launch ramp, we may be able to float it onto your trailer and do the adjustments on site.
If you are ordering a new trailer, Road King Trailers has many boat hull profiles on file and may be able to preset the bunks for us. We would need the year, make and model of your boat to determine if the measurements are already on file. Alternatively, if your boat is available to bring to our location, one of our staff members will make the necessary measurements. Either option can help to reduce the on-site adjustments needed once your trailer arrives. Of course, you can choose to make the adjustments yourself if you have the tools, time, and inclination.
Spare tires, spare tire mounting hardware, coupler locks, and transom tie-downs are not included but are recommended options.
